OUR FAVORITE EQUIPMENT- The Scissors

On occasion, over the next few weeks, we will tell you about our very favorite tools and equipment and why we love them.

These J. A Henckels Superfection Classic 7” scissors never leaves my side. They’re expensive but worth every penny. Besides being super-sharp they have extremely pointy tips which allow me to cut minute hidden threads. They feels good in the hand since they’re not too heavy. The 3” blades are just the perfect length to cut ribbons, felt and straw and are long enough to snuggle under a trim where you need to do some snipping.

Last Night

Nearly got trampled to death by the competing throngs surrounding Victoria Beckham and Andre Leon Talley, I felt like roadkill at a Leicester-vs.-Leeds rugby match as I peddled my wares at Bergdorf Goodman on Fashion Night Out. But I managed to snap a pic of this fab shopper before making my narrow escape. She wears her hat with such aplomb, it looks like an integral part of her.

Got to do some shopping of my own though, at the Merci pop-up shop which is being hosted by the Gap accessories store on 5th Avenue and 54th Street through October 5. Check it out!

Tomorrow night over 700 hundred stores across the five borough's are going to stay open late and hold special events to get us back in the spirit of fashion. What a breath of fresh air – arrived just two days ago from Iceland. Love how is Tattersall plaid cap is set off by his coppery curls and the brilliant blue of his T-shirt.

Post Punk

In this Steven Meisel shot of Linda Evangelista for the August issue of Italian Vogue our cap anticipates the post punk movement that’s popping up in every fashion magazine right now.
The nasty spikes, the icy glare and the smoldering cigarette make the image very Helmut Newton circa 1985. And in 20 seconds her face net could be ablaze. That‘s the reason netting on hats was banned in the 50’s. Women had been smoking with their little veils pulled down to their perfectly powdered noses and a few too many caught fire. So now we’re left without netting to hide our blemishes, and without a very serious seduction tool, although no one smokes anymore anyway…

On the L train

This very cool girl got on the L train at the Bedford stop. She was thin like a reed with long straight dark hair. And visiting from Spain, I think.
She wore a fedora with an unusual pitch to the crown: very tall in the front and sloping severely back. The brim was traditional.
It was a strong and severe shape but looked sweet on her. I’m sure those lines will seep into my work…
